Vasectomy
Services

A vasectomy is a permanent form of male contraception. At Castle Medical, we provide non-scalpel vasectomy procedures in Marsden Park, performed in a general practice setting with careful assessment, clear information and structured follow-up care.

A consultation is required before booking a procedure to assess suitability, discuss risks and confirm long-term considerations.

What is Non-Scalpel Vasectomy ?

A non-scalpel vasectomy is a minimally invasive vasectomy technique performed under local anaesthetic.

The procedure blocks the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm), preventing sperm from entering the semen.

Compared with a traditional scalpel vasectomy, the non-scalpel technique typically involves:

  • A small puncture rather than an incision
  • Reduced bleeding
  • No stitches
  • Short procedure time (approximately 30 minutes)

Vasectomy services are provided by Dr Chaudhry Ahmed in Marsden Park, with structured aftercare and follow-up.

What to Expect.

Your vasectomy consultation provides an opportunity to discuss the procedure, understand the recovery process, and receive personalised medical guidance and support.

Initial consultation & assessment

Before proceeding, you will attend a consultation to ensure vasectomy aligns with your family planning goals.

During this appointment, your doctor will:
• Explain the procedure and how it works
• Discuss risks and potential side effects
• Review your medical history
• Assess suitability for local anaesthesia
• Discuss the permanence of the procedure

A vasectomy should be considered a permanent contraceptive procedure. While reversal surgery is possible, success is not guaranteed.

The non-scalpel vasectomy procedure

The procedure:

o Is performed under local anaesthetic
o Takes approximately 30 minutes
o Does not require stitches
o Is completed in a clinical setting

The technique is designed to minimise tissue disruption and support recovery.

Recovery after vasectomy

After a vasectomy, mild soreness, swelling or bruising is common and usually settles within 1–2 weeks.

To support recovery:
o Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity
o Follow written aftercare instructions
o Monitor for signs of infection

Most men return to desk-based work the next day if comfortable. Physically demanding roles may require at least 48 hours.

Post-vasectomy Semen Analysis

A vasectomy does not provide immediate contraception.

A semen analysis is typically performed 2–3 months after the procedure (or after approximately 20–30 ejaculations) to confirm the absence of sperm.

You must continue using alternative contraception until your doctor confirms a sperm-free result.

What is a vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure and a permanent form of male contraception. It works by blocking the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm), preventing sperm from mixing with semen.

No GP referral is required. However, a pre-procedure consultation is mandatory to assess suitability and discuss risks and long-term considerations.

Yes. A Medicare rebate of $228 may apply, depending on eligibility.

Common temporary side effects of a vasectomy may include:

  • Bruising or swelling
  • Mild pain or discomfort
  • Small lumps at the procedure site
  • Rare risk of infection

Potential risks and complications are discussed during consultation.

A non-scalpel vasectomy typically takes around 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic in a clinical setting.

Yes. You will receive detailed written aftercare instructions outlining wound care, activity restrictions and signs that require review. Follow-up support is available if you have concerns during recovery.

The two main types of vasectomy are:

  • Scalpel vasectomy
  • Non-scalpel (scalpel-free) vasectomy

At Castle Medical, we provide the non-scalpel vasectomy technique, which involves a small puncture rather than an incision and does not require stitches.

You must be 18 years or older to undergo a vasectomy. Suitability depends on individual circumstances, and a detailed consultation is required to assess whether the procedure is appropriate for you.

Vasectomy reversal surgery is possible; however, success is not guaranteed. Even when the tubes are surgically rejoined, fertility may not be restored.

For this reason, vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of contraception.

If you are uncertain, discuss alternative temporary contraception options with your doctor. For more information, visit https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/surgery/reversing-a-vasectomy

Many patients return to desk-based work the following day if comfortable. Roles involving heavy lifting or physical labour may require at least 48 hours before returning. Resume activities gradually and avoid strain until tenderness has settled.

Sexual activity, including ejaculation, should generally be avoided for one to two weeks to allow healing.

It is important to understand that vasectomy does not provide immediate contraception. Alternative contraception must be used until post-vasectomy semen analysis confirms there is no sperm present.

A semen analysis is usually performed two to three months after the procedure (or after approximately 20–30 ejaculations) to confirm the absence of sperm.

Contraception must be continued until your doctor confirms a sperm-free result.

Recovery varies between individuals. Most men resume normal daily activities within a few days. Full recovery typically occurs within one week when aftercare instructions are followed.
