Circumcision is a clinically performed procedure that may be considered for medical, cultural, personal or hygiene-related reasons. At Castle Medical, circumcision services are provided in a general practice setting with careful assessment, clear information and appropriate follow-up care.

Consultations are required prior to booking a procedure to discuss suitability, risks and expected outcomes.

Why Circumcision Matter.

Male circumcision is an operation to remove the foreskin that covers the tip of the penis.

Benefits of circumcision:

  • Improved hygiene and reduced risk of infection
  • Reduced risk of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV, HSV and HPV (levels of protection vary)
  • Decreased risk of penile cancer

What to Expect.

Circumcision may be recommended for medical reasons or chosen for personal considerations. Care includes pre-procedure consultation, explanation of risks and recovery expectations, and follow-up support as needed.

Procedure

You will be guided as to how to prepare for the short procedure. In infants, any who are older than four weeks may receive Panadol after the procedure.

Recovery

Your healthcare team will provide a post-operation instruction on care following the procedure.

Follow-up

An appointment will be required 2-3 weeks after to examine the surgical wound.

What is a circumcision?

Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure involving removal of the foreskin covering the tip of the penis. It may be performed for medical, hygiene, cultural or personal reasons.

Circumcision may reduce the risk of certain infections and foreskin-related conditions. Your doctor will discuss potential benefits and risks in the context of individual circumstances.

You will receive clear written and verbal guidance prior to the procedure, including feeding advice, comfort measures and what to expect on the day.

Babies older than four weeks may receive appropriate pain relief following the procedure. Comfort measures are used during the procedure to minimise distress.

Yes, local anaesthesia is used to reduce discomfort and is considered standard practice for infant and adult circumcision procedures.

Yes, you will receive written aftercare instructions covering wound care, pain management and signs that require medical review. Our team is available by phone after the procedure if you have questions or concerns.

Yes. A follow-up appointment is typically required 2–3 weeks after the procedure to review healing and recovery.

  • $560 with Medicare
  • $660.05 without Medicare

The cost of circumcision procedure (no Shang Ring) for 12 months+:
  • $1600 to $1800 with Medicare
  • $1697.70 to $1897.70 without Medicare

Dr Chaudhry Ahmed brings extensive surgical experience to Castle Medical, having practised overseas for 13 years. He holds a Master’s degree in General Surgery and a Fellowship in Orthopaedics.
At Castle Medical Marsden Park, circumcision care is provided with a focus on clear communication, patient comfort and ongoing support. Patients and families receive guidance before the procedure, written aftercare instructions and follow-up care to support healing and recovery.
